Safety Information

In line with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), the following rules apply to the safe use of a contactor.

Application

A contactor is part of the electrical system of pallet trucks and forklifts. It safely makes/breaks DC circuits (drive, lift) and controls power flow from the battery to the loads.

Hazards

• Electric shock and arc-flash risk when working on live circuits.
• Fire or system damage due to short circuits, miswiring or overload.
• Loss of traction/braking control if contacts stick or weld shut.
• Injury risk during installation/removal (module weight, sharp edges, moving parts).

Precautions

• Use only contactors that meet the truck manufacturer’s specifications (voltage, current, DC type, coil data, contact configuration).
• Perform work de-energised and secure the vehicle against unintended start-up.
• Use correct cable sizes and torque; use OEM lugs/covers. Check for tight connections and signs of overheating.
• Protect from moisture, excessive vibration and contamination; install per orientation and cooling requirements.
• Inspect contacts and coil regularly and replace at signs of wear (pitting, sticking, abnormal heat/noise).

Disposal

Dispose of end-of-life or damaged contactors through WEEE collection points or authorised recyclers. Do not dispose of with household waste.
