In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), the following rules set out the safe use of a forklift radiator.
Use and intended purpose
- The radiator is part of the engine cooling system and dissipates heat from the coolant.
- Use only on models approved by the manufacturer (dimensions, hose necks, fixing points, cap pressure rating).
Identification and compatibility
- Before installation, compare dimensions (length, height, thickness, core width), the position of outlets and brackets with the original part.
- Verify OEM/part number and permissible operating parameters according to the truck manufacturer’s documentation.
Main hazards
- High temperature and pressure: scalding risk; do not open the cap when hot.
- Chemicals: coolant can irritate skin and eyes and is harmful if swallowed.
- Moving parts: injury risk from fan/belt; carry out service with the engine off.
- Leaks and slip risk: clean up spills immediately; consider environmental impact.
Installation requirements
- Secure the truck, switch off the engine and allow it to cool; relieve system pressure.
- Use new gaskets, clamps and fasteners to specification; observe tightening torques.
- Route hoses clear of sharp edges and rotating parts; ensure fan clearance and guards.
- After installation, perform a pressure leak test and bleed the system.
Safe operation
- Use coolant to the manufacturer’s specification; do not mix types without checking compatibility.
- Regularly check coolant level, cap, clamps and hoses; fix leaks immediately.
- Keep the core and airflow paths clean; use moderate air/water pressure (do not bend fins).
Maintenance and inspections
- Replace coolant at the prescribed intervals; use demineralised water where specified.
- Monitor corrosion condition and operating temperature; diagnose deviations (thermostat, pump, fan, cap).
In case of leakage or overheating
- Do not open the cap when hot. Stop the truck, switch off the engine and allow to cool.
- Contain the spill and use absorbent material; clean contaminated surfaces according to safety rules.
- If the core or necks are damaged, suspend operation until repaired or replaced.
Storage and transport
- Store dry, in original packaging; protect fins from impacts and deformation.
- Do not place heavy objects on the core; protect necks from contamination.
Disposal
- Dispose of the used/damaged radiator via authorised metal/electromechanical recycling in line with local rules.
- Treat coolant as hazardous waste; never pour into drains or the environment.
- Recycle packaging after cleaning.
Additional information
- Installation and repair must be carried out by qualified personnel using PPE (gloves, goggles).
- Follow the truck manufacturer’s documentation for torque values, cap pressure and bleeding procedure.
