Safe use – Tiller and parts for pallet trucks
In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), the following safe use guidelines for the tiller and its parts are provided.
Application
This category includes the tiller (control handle, drawbar) and its parts such as levers, linkages, cables, bushings, joints and fasteners. They are used to guide and manoeuvre the pallet truck.
Safe operating conditions
- Use only parts that comply with the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel.
- Moving parts must be properly lubricated and secured.
- Do not use damaged or worn parts.
- Do not overload the control components.
Risks
- Mechanical injury: breakage or failure of linkages or cables.
- Deformation: due to sudden loads.
- Pinch hazard: from misaligned end fittings or guides.
- Material fatigue: under repeated stress.
- Environmental hazard: waste metals and lubricants must be disposed of properly.
Warnings
- Secure the pallet truck before servicing.
- Use only approved or original parts.
- Do not use parts showing cracks, corrosion or deformation.
PPE
- Protective gloves, safety glasses, protective footwear.
Maintenance
- Regularly inspect cables, joints, bushings and fasteners.
- Replace worn parts promptly.
- Maintain lubrication and check tightening torque.
Transport and storage
- Protect against shocks and deformation.
- Store in a clean, dry place.
In case of failure
- Stop use immediately and remove defective parts.
- Inspect before resuming operation.
Disposal
Dispose of metal parts and lubricants at designated collection points.
