Safe use – Hydraulic components for pallet trucks
In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), the following rules for the safe use of hydraulic components are provided.
Application
This category includes complete hydraulic power units as well as their components, such as pumps, motors, valves, hoses, and mounting elements. All are intended for use in the lifting and lowering systems of pallet trucks.
Safe operating conditions
- Use only in accordance with the specifications of the pallet truck and the component manufacturer.
- Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel with appropriate tools.
- Use the hydraulic oil recommended by the manufacturer and keep the system clean.
- Do not modify operating parameters (e.g., pressure, valve settings) without service authorization.
Risks
- High pressure: risk of injury in case of leaks.
- Hot surfaces: risk of burns.
- Crushing hazard: sudden lowering of forks in the event of failure.
- Electrical risk: for electro-hydraulic parts – risk of electric shock.
- Environmental hazard: oil leakage causing contamination and slip risk.
Warnings
- Before servicing, disconnect the power supply and secure the pallet truck.
- Do not use if leaks, damage, or unusual sounds are detected.
- Do not use damaged or incomplete parts.
- Do not operate in explosive atmospheres unless the product is explicitly designed for it.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Oil-resistant gloves, safety glasses, protective clothing, and safety shoes.
Maintenance
- Regularly check hoses, seals, and oil level.
- Replace wear parts according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Repairs and adjustments should only be performed by qualified service personnel.
Transport and storage
- Protect against mechanical damage and corrosion.
- Store in a clean, dry place with closed connections.
In case of failure
- Shut down immediately and disconnect power.
- Absorb leaked oil and dispose of contaminated materials properly.
- Perform a full system check before returning to service.
Disposal
Dispose of used components and hydraulic oil at appropriate collection points. Do not pour oil into drains or the environment.
Additional information
These instructions are general and do not replace the specific documentation of individual components.
