Safety Information
In line with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), the following guidelines apply to the use of distributor caps and ignition wires in pallet trucks and forklifts.
Application
Distributor caps, ignition wires, and distributor rotor fingers are part of an internal combustion engine’s ignition system. They route the spark to the spark plug and transmit the signal from the ignition module.
Hazards
- Engine misfire or failure caused by unsuitable or damaged components.
- Risk of sparking and fire if fuel vapours are present.
- Electric shock hazard during installation if system is live.
- Damage to the electrical system due to incorrect wiring or damaged insulation.
- Loss of engine control potentially leading to hazardous situations.
Precautions
- Use only components that meet the engine manufacturer’s specifications.
- Install/remove only with engine and ignition switched off; use insulated tools and gloves.
- Check insulation and connections before installation; replace damaged parts.
- Route wires carefully – avoid strain, abrasion, and contact with hot components.
- Regularly inspect and replace the ignition system if worn.
Disposal
Dispose of worn or damaged distributor caps, wires, and rotor fingers through WEEE collection points. Do not dispose of in household waste.
