Safe use – Swing arms (wahacz) and components for pallet trucks
In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), the following general safety rules for swing arms and their components are provided.
Application
This category includes swing arms and their parts such as bushings, pins, bearings, joints and fasteners. They form part of the chassis and moving mechanisms of pallet trucks.
Safe operating conditions
- Use only parts that meet the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel using proper tools.
- Bushings, joints and bearings must be properly lubricated and secured.
- Do not use damaged or excessively worn components.
- Do not exceed the allowable loads.
Risks
- Breakage or cracking: may cause instability or failure.
- Bearing damage: may lead to blocking or excessive friction.
- Vibrations: caused by poor installation or wear.
- Mechanical injuries: from contact with moving parts.
- Environmental hazard: waste parts and lubricants must be disposed of properly.
Warnings
- Secure the pallet truck before maintenance.
- Do not use cracked, deformed or worn swing arms.
- Do not exceed specified loads and torques.
- Do not use damaged bearings or bushings.
PPE
- Protective gloves, safety glasses, protective footwear.
Maintenance
- Regularly check the condition of bushings, pins, joints and fasteners.
- Maintain lubrication and corrosion protection.
- Replace defective parts immediately.
Transport and storage
- Protect against impacts and deformation.
- Store in a clean, dry environment.
In case of failure
- Stop the pallet truck immediately.
- Remove loose parts and carry out an inspection.
Disposal
Dispose of metal components and lubricants at approved collection points.
