In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), we present below the safety rules for the use of snow chains for forklift tires.

Application

Snow chains are an additional piece of equipment for forklifts that increases traction on snow and ice. They enable safe maneuvering in winter conditions, reduce the risk of skidding, and improve vehicle stability.

Installation

• Snow chains must be installed while the vehicle is stationary, with the engine switched off and the forklift secured.
• Only use chains suitable for the tire size of the specific forklift model.
• After installation, ensure the chains are properly tightened and check that they do not rub against chassis components.

Operation

• Snow chains should only be used on surfaces covered with snow or ice – driving on asphalt, concrete, or paving stones will cause rapid wear of both chains and tires.
• Regularly check the tension and technical condition of the chains during use.
• Damaged or loose chains must be removed and replaced immediately.
• Maintain a moderate driving speed – excessive speed with chains increases the risk of failure.

Operating conditions

• Snow chains should only be used in winter conditions for which they are intended.
• Do not use them on dry, ice-free surfaces.

Maintenance

• After each use, clean the chains of ice, snow, and road salt, then dry them thoroughly.
• It is advisable to treat them with an anti-corrosion agent to extend their durability.

Transport and storage

• Store the chains in a dry, clean place, preferably in a bag or transport box.
• Protect them from moisture and prolonged exposure to weather conditions that may cause corrosion.

Disposal

Worn-out snow chains should be handed over to a scrap metal collection point or a service specializing in recycling metal components. Do not dispose of them with household waste.
