How to check the carriage class and the condition of the forks before replacement?
Before selecting forks, the compatibility of the fork class must be confirmed according to the ISO 2328 standard, which defines the height and spacing of the mounting hooks. In class 2A, the distance between the upper and lower hook is approx. 407 mm, and in class 3A approx. 508 mm. The letter A refers to the mounting design (hook type). The class can be verified by measuring the distance between the upper and lower hook of the fork, by reading the forklift nameplate, or in the manufacturer’s technical documentation. Correct matching of the fork class to the forklift carriage class is a prerequisite for safe installation and operation.
Before replacement, the technical condition of the existing forks should also be assessed. Forks must be replaced if the thickness in the working area has decreased by approx. 10% compared to the nominal dimension, if they show cracks in the hook area or at the heel, or if they have permanent deformations or twists of the profile. Cross-section wear results in an actual reduction of the forklift’s load capacity and may be questioned during a UDT inspection.

No. Forks should be replaced in pairs to ensure even load distribution and stability during forklift operation.
WHEN SHOULD FORKS BE REPLACED?
In case of permanent deformation, cracks, twists, or significant cross-section wear. Damaged forks should not be used further.
WHAT DO CLASSES 2A AND 3A MEAN?
Carriage classes 2A and 3A are designations according to the ISO 2328 standard, which defines the dimensions and type of mounting hooks for forklift forks.
