How to check the mast carriage class and fork condition before replacement?

Before selecting forks, the fork class according to ISO 2328 must be confirmed, as it defines the height and spacing of the mounting hooks. The classes differ by the height between the upper and lower hook: 2A/2B – approx. 407 mm, 3A/3B – approx. 508 mm, 4A/4B – approx. 635 mm. The designations “A” and “B” refer to the hook construction (hook type), while the height remains the same within a given class. The class can be verified by measuring the distance between the upper and lower hook on the carriage, checking the forklift nameplate, or consulting the manufacturer’s technical documentation. Proper matching of the fork class to the forklift carriage class is required for safe installation and maintaining the rated load capacity of the forklift.

Before replacement, the technical condition of the existing forks should also be assessed. Forks must be replaced if their thickness in the working area has decreased by approximately 10% compared to the nominal dimension, if they show cracks in the hook area or at the heel, or exhibit permanent deformation or twisting of the profile. Cross-section wear leads to an actual reduction in forklift load capacity and may be questioned during a UDT inspection.

FAQ
CAN FORKS BE REPLACED INDIVIDUALLY?

No. Forks should be replaced in pairs to ensure even load distribution and forklift stability.

WHEN SHOULD FORKS BE REPLACED?

In case of permanent deformation, cracks, twisting, or significant cross-section wear. Damaged forks should not be used further.

WHAT DO CLASSES 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A AND 4B MEAN?

Classes 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A and 4B are designations according to the ISO 2328 standard, which defines the dimensions and type of mounting hooks for forklift forks. The number (2, 3, 4) indicates the height between the upper and lower hook: 2 – approx. 407 mm, 3 – approx. 508 mm, 4 – approx. 635 mm. The letters A and B specify the hook type (mounting profile). The fork class must match the carriage class to ensure correct and safe installation.

IS A SAFETY LOCK INCLUDED WITH THE FORKS?

Yes. A locking pin is included with the forks to prevent them from slipping off the carriage.
